How rental shops track a fleet without losing a unit

Most counters start with a whiteboard or a sheet that has a row per bike, kayak, or tent. It works until two people edit it, or until something comes back dirty and nobody marks it out.

Give every unit a short asset code that is printed on the item, not only in the software. The code is what the desk searches. The name can be friendly. The code has to be unique.

Status should be a word you can say out loud: available, reserved, out, or in repair. Color alone fails when the printer is out of toner and when a new hire is still learning the legend.

The next booking belongs on the same row as the unit. If the 2pm pickup is on a different tab, the person at the counter will hand out the wrong one.

Ridge Peak Rentals in this demo is a bike shop. The same list works if the shop rents paddles, trailers, or both. The catalog is a set of named items, not a bike form you have to fight.
